Poor egg quality

Post by random02 » Tue May 26, 2020 12:41 pm

Hi ladies, I really need your guidance. It's been almost 10 years since we married. Because of some personal issues we can't start our family. We already are ttc for 2.5 years, but with no result. Now I really regret how we spend that time.
It's 3d unsuccessful year TTC with IVF. It's the second cycle of my IVF for egg retrieval where 18 eggs were retrieved but from them only 10 are alive. After fertilization I was informed by the doctors that 5 egg died,3 haywire and 2 are in very low quality and even the eggs have not the right number of chromosomes and the level of FSH is also very high. I am disappointed as she advised me to go for surrogacy. But I don't want to go for donor egg. For this they ask us to go for one another IVF cycle, but if it fails we don't have any option except donor egg. I'm really in dilemma don't know what to do
Any advice would be good!!!

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you are going through. I'm at the very beginning of my 2nd IVF cycle. My dh and I have been trying for 3 years without any results. I was diagnosed with poor egg quality. And I am only 28. My Dr. says our chances are high due to my age. Even though the ovarian reserve starts to deplete due to aging, some treatments can help to improve egg quality. I had 3 failed IUIs and a failed IVF cycle. My RE did a co-culture on the eggs and assisted hatching. during my 2nd IVF cycle. She also changed my protocol. It helped me to produce better quality eggs. I’ve switched to Lupron and used DHEA, maybe you should also give it a try. You should consult with your Dr. about this. They will make a new treatment plan to improve your egg quality. Please don't give up! I know it’s a tough journey but being positive gives a lot of strength! So many women have similar issues but succeed eventually. So many of us are struggling, but we should keep trying! Maybe you should change a clinic or seek another specialist. The second opinion never hurts! Feel free to message me if you need to talk!

Hi, sorry to read your story. Most likely bad quality of your eggs is due your age. You should keep trying, there are many success stories with similar situation as yours. I will share my story. I was broken and devastated and my only thought was about adoption. I was born with an incompetent cervix so I couldn't conceive from a start. So surrogacy was the only option for us, but due to my age, 45 at the time. egg quality wasn't good. My husband wanted to have a baby only with my own eggs. He insisted on continuing treatments and doing everything to improve my egg quality.
That gave me determination so I started eating as healthy as possible and doing exercises and generally improving my lifestyle. My doctor put me on DHEA for 2 months then we switched to Vitamin D, CoQ10 and Omega 3 fatty acids.
It took a year to get my eggs to the right quality, for retrieval. And now I'm a mother 2yo son.
So don't dare to lose hope, Best of luck for you.
P.S. Please, share your results after treatments. If you gonna need help I'm there for you.

Hi Evadoyle! I feel your pain... I had 3 failed IVF cycles due to poor egg quality. Now I'm getting ready for my 4th cycle. It'll be my last cycle. So I really hope it'll work! I want to be a mom so badly... I want to be pregnant, I want to carry my child, I want to give birth... This is so unbearably hard to try over and over again, to hope, to dream, to imagine... but we fail each and every time. I’m so disappointed... Your story gives me hope! I'll ask my doctor if we can do something to improve the egg quality. I'm willing to do anything to have a baby! I asked my RE about DHEA, but she said I can’t have it as I have a low level of AMH. Also, she told me it can cause severe side effects, so I'm not sure I want to risk my health at this point.

Hi Stefanyross! Yes, your RE is right, there're some side effects. As I said in my previous post, you should always consult with a specialist before taking any medicine. Only your Dr. can tell what is good or bad for you. I know that DHEA helped some women to improve their egg quality and get pg, but each case is different. A friend of mine was taking DHEA before her 2nd IVF cycle. Her Dr. did some tests, changed the protocol and only then prescribed DHEA to improve her egg quality. Apart, from improving the egg quality, it increased her overall feeling, improved sex drive, and improved physical strength, mental acuity, and memory. Talking about the side effects I heard about are oily skin, acne, and an upset stomach. Anyway, as I said, each case is different. All of us have different health issues. Some medications can help, some can cause troubles. So please do not take medications without consulting the specialist first!

Hi there, it hurts to hear about the experience
I think that if there is nothing wrong with your uterus you should leave thought about surrogacy. The most common reason is the bad quality of the eggs. Using donor eggs can be a solution, also have you heard about a mitochondrial donation? A weak mitochondrial activity can be another reason for eggs incompetency. Just search for it.
We've got bad results after NHS treatment. the doctor offered to go with donor eggs. We took a break, for emotional and financial reasons.
When we came back doctor said that with my own eggs chance of conceiving is only 2 percent 🙁
So we went with donor eggs, we've got several embryos but eventually, it didn't work.
After that we put back 2 of our frozen embryos and now I'm 9 weeks pregnant with twins. It was a shock, I was so happy, of course, there is a lot to worry about but I'm so pleased.
If I can be helpful, just let me know!

Hi! Last year I visited my OB, and I had some tests. As a result, I got to know that my ovarian reserve is very low.
I want to conduct the IVF procedure but before it my OB recommended I take some drugs in order to make my eggs better. So, I took the CoQ10 pills. It’s a compound that generates energy in cells.
And also, I used dehydroepiandrosterone. The DHEA is also known as androstenolone. It’s an endogenous steroid hormone. These medicines are widely used. And I really hope very very much that they will improve my eggs’ quality.
